What is Community RePaint?
The project takes paint, wallpaper and borders which would have to be disposed of, and redistributes them to those able to use them. It is part of a national scheme www.communityrepaint.org.uk, and is administered locally by Wirral LA21 Network.Locally, it has saved many thousands of litres of paint and reditributed it to groups in need of it.
For further details, see 'Contact Us' section at the bottom of this page.

August 2007

One year on it is a hive of activity in the afternoons with people coming from all over Merseyside to avail themselves of the fantastic service provided here at Community RePaint Wirral. Over 50 voluntary and community groups have signed up to the scheme as members, ranging from Hooton Airfield to Hoylake Methodist Church to Rugby Clubs to Drug Rehabilitation Centres to . . . you name it. The end of August marked the end of our first year of operation here in Wirral and we have given out an incredible 5,678 litres of paint which would otherwise have ended up being treated as "hazardous waste". How much better to use it to brighten up walls and woodwork everywhere!

RePaint is a brilliant new scheme now running in Wirral.
Like me, I'm sure you have tins of perfectly usable paint, varnish, or wood stains in your shed, sitting there because they may come in useful one day. Well that day is today.Over 377 million litres of paint are sold in the UK each year (retail and trade) of which an estimated 75 million litres (enough to fill fifty olympic sized swimming pools) is stored in homes and garages or just thrown away, usually straight into landfill.
Community Repaint is unique in Britain and in Europe. It is one of the most innovative and practical waste minimisation/reuse initiatives in the UK and represents a pioneering solution to the problem of leftover paint. Wirral LA21 Network is behind this initiative in Wirral - and we are actively collecting paint - not tiny little hardened scraps at the bottom of rusty old imperial-size cans, but paint that you would be pleased to receive.
